Connecting to the Nexis

When you successfully connect to your z2, I’d suggest mapping your keyboard (if you are using an Apple keyboard, you can go into your settings and change the behavior of the modifier keys, as a Mac keyboard and PC keyboard don’t have interchangeable keys).

Launch the Nexis Client Manager (this should be on your desktop already but if not it will be in the dock).

Next to Systems on the top left is an icon with a green plus sign, click that and put in your Nexis-specific login information. As a reminder, editors have READ access to media drives and READ/WRITE access to Project and Render drives. Please make sure you are only mounting the drives that you need. Once connected, launch Avid!

Launching Avid

Once you are connected to the Nexis and launch Avid, leave the MediaCentral Login blank. You’ll navigate to your project in the Location section. There is a slider bar under the location folder icon, make sure that it’s all the way to the left (otherwise everything will be so zoomed in you won’t be able to see).

To open your project, click on the file icon next to Location. From there, click on the arrow next to My PC which will reveal all the partitions you have mounted. Then you can click on BBF3537_PROJECTS and open your episode project from there.

Reminders, Tips, and Best Practices

  • Editors and Producers should use the z2 as they would in the office, email should be used on the z2 so if you receive a file that needs to be downloaded, you’ll do so directly on the z2

  • Restart your system when you begin your shift. Log out of the Nexis at the end of your shift.

  • Shut down Avid at the end of your shift.

  • Keep the desktop neat, while your system will be dedicated to you for the duration of your booked time, these are all shared workspaces.

  • DO NOT upgrade to Windows 11, ignore the prompt when it comes up on the z2

  • MacIf your additional monitor doesn't show up and you're on a Mac, try going into the Mac Mission Control settings and changing it to "displays have separate spaces" and see if that does it.
